Azerbaijan is on the verge of introducing a compulsory oath for citizens entering permanent diplomatic service for the first time.
According to Report, the new bill, titled "On Diplomatic Service," has been submitted to the Milli Majlis, the country's parliament, for consideration.
According to the proposed legislation, Azerbaijani citizens assuming permanent diplomatic roles will be required to take the following oath before commencing their duties:
"I swear to faithfully serve the state and people of Azerbaijan, abide by the Constitution and laws of the Republic of Azerbaijan, protect state and official secrets, perform my duties impartially, conscientiously, and responsibly, always uphold the title of a diplomatic service employee, and worthily represent the Republic of Azerbaijan."</i>
The signed oath will be stored in the diplomat's personal file.
