Hero of Patriotic War: We used tactic in Zangilan that enemy did not expect

During the Patriotic War, when we released the Three Point Heights from the enemy in Zangilan, we used tactics that the Armenians did not expect, Major of the State Border Service (SBS), Hero of the Patriotic War Anar Mammadov told Report.

He said that after SBS units cleared the city of Zangilan from the enemy, the border guards organized the protection and defense of the district: "At the same time, our team searched for Armenians who were wounded in the region and hid in the basements of buildings and houses. After staying in the city for some time, we receaved a task from the higher command to clear the Three Point Height - the area connecting the state borders of Azerbaijan, Iran, and Armenia - from the enemy. This is a height of strategic importance. So, that place allows us to control a certain part of the territories of Armenia."

A day before the start of the operation, the border guards conducted a reconnaissance of the Three Point Height from the nameless height located at a distance of 825 meters. Also, the locations of weapons and equipment of the Armenian units located behind the heights were determined by drones.

Mammadov said that the collected intelligence information was reported to the top management:

"After that, the teams immediately entered to execute the operation. We used such a tactic - pushed forward the armored personnel carriers that we placed on the banks of the Araz river and concentrated the enemy's main forces in that direction with intermittent shots."

The major recalls that after that, the SBS units set off in pairs - 'Buddies' and began to advance step by step in the direction of the Three Point Height, and on those roads, they encountered many 'surprises' of the enemy:

"Armenians had anti-tank and anti-personnel mines there. The enemy tried to slow down our movement, but they could not. Thanks to the firing of our armored personnel carriers from the left wing, we quickly started to climb the heights. As a result, the height was freed from the enemy, and we achieved our goal. We had martyrs and wounded here. May Allah rest the souls of our martyrs and heal our wounded!"

According to him, during the combat operation, he was awarded the military rank of major by the head of the SBS, Colonel-General Elchin Guliyev:

"I am glad to have received the military rank of major on the battlefield. After the Patriotic War, according to the relevant orders of the President, Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, in addition to being awarded the title of Hero of the Patriotic War, I was awarded the medals 'For the liberation of Jabrayil' and 'For the liberation of Zangilan'."
