Fazil Novruzov: Media should be accessible to everyone

Media, especially audiovisual media, should be accessible to everyone, the Head of the Office of the Azerbaijani Audiovisual Council, Fazil Novruzov, said at the event "Equality in Audiovisual Media and Accessibility to Information," Report informs.

According to Novruzov, human rights and freedoms are one of the main priority areas in Azerbaijan.

The head of the office added that the amendment to the bill on the rights of persons with disabilities has created the basis for the joint activities of many organizations:

"This amendment was already the demand of the time. The systematic reforms carried out in the field of media in recent years could not go beyond persons with disabilities. Protecting the rights of these persons is also a direct implementation of human rights".

Novuzov noted that making information accessible to sign language or persons with disabilities is mandatory for state and public broadcasters, but not for private broadcasters:

"According to world experience, almost all broadcasters ensure accessibility to information in order to show respect for every member of society."
