The EU will continue to support the demining process of the liberated Azerbaijani territories, Head of the EU Delegation to Azerbaijan Peter Michalko said at a press conference in Baku on December 15, Report informs.
The envoy expressed regret over the death of an Azerbaijani citizen in yesterday's mine incident in Kalbajar, as a result of which seven other people were injured.
Mine clearance is an important part of the recovery of the liberated territories, and 27 countries support this process, said the EU ambassador.
He noted that EU projects are spreading throughout the country.
Answering the question about EU's participation in the restoration of the liberated territories, Michalko noted that the EU projects extend to the whole country.
The EU is already considering such an opportunity to support the liberated territories, he said, adding that they are waiting for an answer from the authorities.
According to the ambassador, participation is possible within the already announced package of economic and investment support to Azerbaijan in the amount of 2 billion euros or with the use of other instruments.
Michalko expressed hope for the establishment of sustainable peace and prosperity in the South Caucasus.
