Human skeletons from 9th century BC found in Azerbaijan's Goranboy

During archeological excavations in Goranboy, Azerbaijan, beads of different colors, pottery, and human skeletons of various positions were found, Report informs.

The necropolis, which dates back to the IX-VIII centuries BC, was discovered in Munjuglutepe, located in the Tatarli village of the Goranboy district.

The area excavated by the Naftalan-Goranboy archeological expedition of ANAS is more than 1 hectare. Archaeological excavations have been carried out in 19 graves in the necropolis of the Late Bronze and Early Iron Ages. The skeletons were buried in the rectangular and oval tombs. The density of graves is especially noticeable here.

Chief of Naftalan-Goranboy archeological expedition of ANAS Muzaffar Huseynov said that the necropolis located in Tatarli village belongs to the last period of Khojaly-Gadabay culture, the Early Iron Age. Anthropologists say that this necropolis is different from others, and the graves are not standard.

Excavations are underway at the Munjuglutepe necropolis in the Goranboy district. The items found there will be studied in a laboratory and some specific samples will be sent to other countries.
