WB manager: Middle Corridor can be considered green one

The Middle Corridor can already be considered a green corridor with great potential, World Bank (WB) Country Manager for Azerbaijan Stefanie Stallmeister said at a round table meeting within the Baku Climate Action Week, Report informs.

She noted that to make the corridor even 'greener', serious commitments are needed from operators and governments.

This includes investments in developing low or zero-emission fuels, creating infrastructure for storing such fuels, she noted.

Stallmeister emphasized that appropriate regulations need to be developed to ensure the competitiveness of low-carbon fuels.

Otherwise, it will be difficult to incentivize the private sector to invest in these areas, she noted, adding that governments should also consider involving the private sector in financing pilot projects, which will help demonstrate the importance of these initiatives.

The implementation and promotion of such projects in the region is also of great importance, she said.
