Around 1,000 trucks have accumulated at the port of Kuryk in Kazakhstan's Mangistau region, waiting for ferry transport to Azerbaijan, Report informs via Kazakh media.
The director of Kuryk port, Serik Akhmetov, noted that the shipping delay is caused by several reasons.
"According to statistics, in November and December, the port is closed due to weather conditions about 50% of the time. Another factor is the increase in the number of vehicles because Russia's sanctions list has expanded, and some products can no longer go through the old routes, so all these trucks have now come to us," the port director added.
He noted that with the support of Kazakhstan's Ministry of Transport, they managed to arrange for all Azerbaijani ferries to be redirected to Mangistau. Previously, some were heading to Turkmenistan, he said.
"The reinforcement will continue until the queue problem is resolved. According to our calculations, this will happen in late January - early February. We have already introduced restrictions on railway car shipments from Kuryk, prioritizing trucks. There are about 1,000 trucks on our side and the same number waiting to be sent to us in Azerbaijan. The route needs additional ferries," Serik Akhmetov added.
