Shahin Mustafayev: ‘The Zangazur corridor will become an important part of the East-West corridor’

Azerbaijan is actively promoting the creation of the Zangazur corridor, which will become an essential component of the East-West corridor, Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafyev said, Report informs.

According to him, Azerbaijan is doing a lot of work on its territory along this transport corridor: “Road and railway infrastructure is being built and restored. 66% of the works on the 123.9 km-long Horadiz-Aghband highway and 38% of the works on the Horadiz-Aghband railway (110.4 km) have been completed. Those roads are part of this corridor. Unfortunately, nothing is happening on the territory of Armenia, practical measures are not being implemented, and even no technical and economic justification or project is being prepared.”

Mustafayev said that there have still been speculations about the transport corridor and the extraterritoriality terms for a long time: “Although they are not related or even synonymous.”

He recalled that a transport corridor is a transport route passing through the territory of several countries that have agreed to pursue transport, customs, and other policies to reduce costs and transit time to promote transport: “The concept of a transport corridor is well known to Armenia, which is a party to the agreement on the coordinated development of international transport corridors passing through the territory of the CIS member states and other similar multilateral and bilateral documents.”
