Samir Abdullayev: Introduction of electric buses will reduce toxic gases emissions

The introduction of electric buses is leading to a reduction in toxic gases emitted into the atmosphere in Azerbaijan, Samir Abdullayev, Chairman of the Public Council under the Small and Medium Business Development Agency (KOBIA) under the Ministry of Economy, said at a public discussion themed "Green transport business: Opportunities and Prospects," Report informs.

According to Abdullayev, traditional means of transport are gradually giving way to electric cars and electric buses: "This transition will form the basis of urban transport in the future. The transition to electric transport is also challenging. The transition to green transport in Azerbaijan is important despite the existing difficulties."

He said that electric buses are more expensive than diesel-powered ones: "The investments in this area are also greater. In addition, it is necessary to create extensive charging stations for these vehicles, which means additional funds and infrastructure."

Abdullayev noted that important steps are already being taken in this regard: “Electric buses have been put into operation, and the application of micromobility solutions is expanding. Changes are being made to the legislation on road traffic, new concepts and marking systems are being introduced.”

He added that all these works are important for cities with a large demographic burden and traffic density, like Baku, in terms of achieving green energy goals.
