Landon Derentz: Middle Corridor is guarantee of stability in Middle East

The Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (Middle Corridor) is a guarantee of stability in the Middle East, Landon Derentz, the senior director and Morningstar Chair for Global Energy Security at the Atlantic Council Global Energy Center, said in the plenary discussions on “Oil Flows: Cross-Logistics and Infrastructure Development in Azerbaijan” on the 2nd day of the Baku Energy Forum, Report informs.

Derentz said that the Middle Corridor has great opportunities: “In order to maximize the opportunities created by Azerbaijan for the world, it is necessary to look at the issues through the Trans-Caspian lens. It is important to emphasize the key role of Azerbaijan which the center of the Middle Corridor. I believe this will not happen without the leadership of Azerbaijan and the country's resources.”

The Caspian Policy Center in Washington stated that the volume of trade along the Middle Corridor can be potentially increased by 11 million tons by 2030.

"We must encourage this and accept this reality. Azerbaijan's COP29 chairmanship creates opportunities for the success of the Middle Corridor, promoting the exploration of new technologies and new ways in this direction," Derentz stressed.

The Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR or Middle Corridor) is a vital international transport corridor that spans across China, Kazakhstan, the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and onward to Türkiye and European countries.

In 2023, over 2.7 million tons of cargo were transported through this route, which is 86% more than in 2022. The prospective plan for 2024 is about 4 million tons.
