Kars-Nakhchivan railway may become new branch of Middle Corridor

The plan for the construction of the Kars-Nakhchivan railway should be considered as the creation of a new branch of the Middle Corridor (Trans-Caspian International Transport Route), Azerbaijani Economy Minister Mikayil Jabbarov said at the Azerbaijani-Turkish investment forum in Baku, Report informs.

He noted that the road, which will pass through Zangilan, Iran, Nakhchivan and again through the territory of Türkiye, as an alternative, will further strengthen the countries’ partnership in the transport sector.

The minister emphasized that Azerbaijan plays an important role in the Middle Corridor project as a reliable trade route connecting East and West.

“The transport corridors passing through our country along the Middle Corridor, the Baku Sea Trade Port, the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway line and other projects are the shortest and most important for the transportation of goods from Azerbaijan, Türkiye to Europe and back.

Being an active participant in the East-West and North-South transport corridors, Azerbaijan, at its own expense, invested in infrastructure projects related to railway, road and air transport,” said Jabbarov.
