Iran shows great interest in developing the East-West transport and logistics corridor passing through Azerbaijan, former Iranian ambassador to Romania, expert at the Iranian Embassy in Azerbaijan Hamidreza Arshadi said at the International Round Table in Baku "Shaping the Transport Framework of Eurasia and Significant Role of Azerbaijan in this Process," Report informs.
He noted that special attention is paid to the construction of the Aghband-Kalala railway and road, which will become part of an important transport link between the western regions of Azerbaijan and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.
"Within this project, key infrastructure facilities are being implemented - in particular, the construction of new Siyahrud-Ordubad bridges, as well as the development of the necessary border and customs infrastructure. Iran expects that the completion of these communications will create significant potential for expanding regional logistics and transit links," Arshadi noted.
He stressed that after the commissioning of the Aghband-Jabrayil-Aghdam-Yevlakh-Georgia and Aghband-Lachin-Kalbajar-Ganja-Georgia highways, new transport opportunities will open up: "These routes will provide Iran with the most convenient and cost-effective access to the Black Sea."
