The recent geopolitical situation has further increased the strategic importance of Azerbaijan in international transportation, Deputy Minister of Digital Development and Transport Javid Gurbanov said at the first session of the National Business Development Forum themed "Discussion of questions and proposals on the development of Transport Infrastructure," Report informs.
"Major reforms are being implemented in the field of transport infrastructure in Azerbaijan. The reforms aim to stimulate the joint activity of both the state and private sectors, to establish a more efficient system by applying innovative solutions and digital technologies. Thus, in recent years, the role of the transport sector in the Azerbaijani economy has significantly increased, and its share in GDP has increased to 6.5%," he emphasized.
According to him, relevant steps are being taken to increase the country's transit potential and transform it into a transport hub of Eurasia:
"In a short period of time, a sharp increase has been observed in the volume of transit cargo passing through the territory of Azerbaijan. In addition, highways located on international transport corridors passing through the country are being reconstructed at the first technical level."
