Deadline for completing power supply system reconstruction of Baku-Boyuk-Kasik railway line revealed

Reconstruction of the power supply system of the Baku - Boyuk-Kasik railway line within the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars international railway corridor project is planned to be completed in 2027, Report informs via the Azerbaijan Railways CJSC.

"Reconstruction of the power supply system of the Baku - Boyuk-Kasik railway line includes work on modernization of communication and signaling systems. The Boyuk-Kasik - Ujar section is operated with alternating current. At the next stage, it is planned to begin work on switching to alternating current on the Hajigabul-Baku section," the Azerbaijan Railways CJSC noted.

In 2010-2014, some 917 kilometers of the Baku - Boyuk-Kasik railway line were overhauled within the state program for the development of the railway transport system.

In July 2020, with the participation of Rail Trans Service LLC, for the first time in the history of Azerbaijan Railways, a test of the transition to an alternating current system was carried out. The first test run of a new alternating current electric locomotive was carried out at Alabashli station. The transition to alternating current will have a positive effect on increasing the volume of goods transported by rail and the number of passengers due to improved traction of electric locomotives.
