COP29: New initiatives unveiled at Urban Development Day to boost int’l co-op

Anar Guliyev, Chairman of the State Committee for Urban Planning and Architecture of Azerbaijan, met with several government representatives visiting Baku for COP29, the state committee told Report.

During a productive meeting with Malaysia's Minister of Housing and Local Government, Nga Kor Ming, the prospects for cooperation in urban planning, infrastructure, and local governance were discussed. Both parties explored new opportunities for joint projects and more effective work in these areas through mutual exchange of expertise.

Anar Guliyev noted that this cooperation will have a positive influence on the greater success of both Azerbaijan and Malaysia in urbanization and improvement of life quality.

In another meeting with the delegation from Tajikistan, led by Nizom Mirzozoda, Chairman of the Committee for Architecture and Construction, the parties discussed expanding bilateral cooperation and implementing joint projects. The Tajik side expressed particular interest in Azerbaijan's experience in modernizing and transforming cities while preserving traditions, as well as innovative approaches to urban planning that harmonize historical heritage, modern solutions, and sustainable development.

Anar Guliyev also met with the delegation from Singapore, headed by Prof Cheong Koon Hean, Chairman of the Centre for Livable Cities at the Ministry of National Development. The meeting focused on the prospects for cooperation, with special attention to Singapore's extensive experience in sustainable and livable healthy cities approach, ecological solutions, advanced urban planning technologies, and digitalization of city management. The parties invited each other to the upcoming World Urban Forum in Baku and the World Cities Summit in Singapore, respectively.

All three delegations participating in the Urban Planning Day at COP29 expressed sincere congratulations on the successful organization of the event, as well as the Multi-Sectoral Action for Sustainable and Healthy Cities initiative and the establishment of the Baku Sustainability Coalition.
