Azerbaijan sees increase in cargo traffic via railways

Azerbaijan’s cargo transportation by rail grew by 11% in volume, during the first five months of 2024, compared to the same period last year, said Mammad Hamidov, head of the Commercial Department of Azerbaijan Railways CJSC, Report informs.
He made the remark in the panel discussion themed “Middle Corridor: perspectives and challenges" held within the framework of the Translogistica Caspian exhibition in Baku.
In particular, there was a 6% increase in domestic cargo transportation by rail, attributable to significant developments like the completion of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railway line expansion, Hamidov added.
Commencing on May 20, cargo transit began on this newly expanded route with the inaugural dispatch of a freight train, the official also pointed out.
