Azerbaijan and Turkey intend to expand cooperation on railways

Within the working visit of a delegation led by Emre Oztelli, General Manager of International Service Trade under the Ministry of Trade, to Azerbaijan, cooperation opportunities on new areas were discussed at the Azerbaijan Railways CJSC, Report informs, citing the CJSC.

Speaking about the existing cooperation between the two countries in various fields, Hijran Valehov stressed that Turkish companies also actively participate in the restoration and construction projects in the liberated territories.

Emre Oztelli said that this meeting will play a crucial role in expanding the existing opportunities between Azerbaijan and Turkey on the railways. According to him, the Turkish companies are interested in participating in infrastructure projects in Karabakh.

The guests made a presentation about their companies. It was reported that the companies represented at the meeting participated in the development and implementation of railway projects, as well as in the construction of transport infrastructure not only in Turkey but also in many countries around the world.

The current railway line between Azerbaijan and Turkey is Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK), which was opened on October 30, 2017. The railway line connects the railway networks of Asia and Europe. This is the shortest route not only between the three countries but also between Asia and Europe. The BTK railway facilitates access to European and world markets for Central Asian countries - Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Afghanistan.

After opening the Zangazur corridor, it is planned to build a road and a railway from Igdir to Nakhchivan.
