ADSEA: Azerbaijan at risk of water shortage

Azerbaijan is among the countries facing a risk of water shortage, Jabbar Jabbarli, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of the United Water Supply Service of Large Cities under the Azerbaijan State Water Resources Agency (ADSEA), Report informs.

Jabbarli explained that forecasts predicting global water shortages are justified, attributing them to global warming.

He noted that approximately 70% of Azerbaijan's water resources are derived from foreign sources, increasing the country's risk of water scarcity: "Given these risks, the head of state regularly implements measures. One such measure is the decree issued for the development of a water strategy in 2024."

The deputy further outlined the agency's three-stage approach: "First, proposals are being prepared to improve the existing system and address problems. These proposals are then implemented. Finally, ensuring the population has access to clean, high-quality water is one of our main priorities."
