Baku. 14 December. REPORT.AZ/ The congress of the International Fencing Federation (FIE) was held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Report informs citing the press service of the Azerbaijan Fencing Federation (AFF), a delegation led by the Federation president, Taxes Minister Mikayil Jabbarov took part in the congress.
The event, which was attended by 126 national federations, focused on the results of last year and future development plan. It was decided at the forum to host the 2020 World Youth and Junior Championships in Salt Lake City, USA. Cairo (Egypt) and Zagreb (Croatia), respectively, will host the 2019 and 2020 World Veteran Fencing Championships.
During the event, AFF delegation held bilateral meetings with FIE President, famous billionaire Alisher Usmanov, European Fencing Confederation President Stanislav Pozdnyakov, as well as senior officials of Ukrainian, Georgian Fencing Federations and head coach of the Russian national team Ilgar Mammadov. During the meetings, development of fencing in Azerbaijan, perspectives of cooperation for coaches and athletes to gain experience, participation of athletes in international tournaments were discussed.
M. Jabbarov congratulated the Azerbaijani-origin double Olympic champion on the occasion of being awarded the Order of Honor of the Russian Federation. Highly appreciating I. Mammadov's contribution to the development of this kind of sport, AFF President wished him success in his coaching activity.
