The Azerbaijani freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling teams were crowned champions at the European Championship held in Slovakia, President of the Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation Mikayil Jabbarov said on X, Report informs.
"Our wrestlers earned a total of 4 gold, 2 silver, and 7 bronze medals in the competition. Our freestyle wrestling team secured the European team title for the fifth time. Giorgi Meshvildishvili (125 kg) won gold, Osman Nurmagomedov (92 kg) took silver, while Islam Bazarganov (57 kg), Ali Rahimzade (65 kg), Kanan Heybatov (70 kg), and Aghanazar Novruzov (74 kg) claimed bronze medals," Jabbarov wrote.
"Despite injuries, Zhala Aliyeva (57 kg), a member of our women's wrestling team, demonstrated exceptional resolve and secured third place. Our Greco-Roman wrestling team claimed the European team title for the second time. Nihat Mammadli (60 kg), Hasrat Jafarov (67 kg), and Gurban Gurbanov (82 kg) captured gold medals, Eldaniz Azizli (55 kg) won silver, and Ulvu Ganizade (72 kg) along with Islam Abbasov (87 kg) earned bronze. These achievements reflect the continuous development of Azerbaijani wrestling and the high level of professionalism and dedication demonstrated by our athletes on the international stage.
