FIDE awards 11-year-old grandmaster from Azerbaijan's Nakhchivan candidate master title

A talented chess player from Azerbaijan's Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, Yasin Azimov, has achieved another success.

The International Chess Federation (FIDE) awarded Yasin Azimov the title of CM - Candidate Master, Report informs.

This achievement is a significant event in the history of chess in Nakhchivan, as he is one of the youngest chess players to receive this title.

Currently ranked 2058th in the FIDE rating, Azimov has made a number of important achievements in recent years, both in local and international tournaments. He won gold and silver medals in the Azerbaijan Championship, and achieved a high result in 2023, becoming the European Chess Champion among schoolchildren (9-year-old boys), which was held in the Albanian city of Durres.

To date, 1 grandmaster, 3 international masters, 1 FIDE master, 2 FIDE women masters, 2 candidate masters, 1 international arbiter, and 2 FIDE arbiters have been registered in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic as holders of official titles.
