Another provocation against Azerbaijan was committed at the Australian Open tennis tournament, Report informs.
The "flag" of the separatist regime in Karabakh was unfurled next to the Armenian flag.
The provocation was carried out by a group of Armenians on the initiative of Karen Khachanov, a tennis player of Armenian descent representing Russia at the tournament, during his match with the Japanese Yesehito Nishioka.
Moreover, after the game, Khachanov wrote words of support for the separatist regime in the sovereign territories of Azerbaijan on the camera lens. The Azerbaijan Tennis Federation has sent a letter to the Russian Tennis Federation in this regard.
Federation Executive Director Sabira Abdullayeva told Report that they take the incident seriously:
"A letter of protest was sent to the International Tennis Federation and the Russian Tennis Federation in connection with the athlete's unacceptable actions. We hope that such actions of Khachanov will be stopped and there will be no provocations at subsequent competitions. The International Federation and the organizers must take measures to prevent similar situations at prestigious tournaments in the future. Khachanov's act harms the reputation of tennis. We demanded the imposition of fines, sanctions and removal of this athlete from participation in the tournament. He must be duly punished for the provocation against Azerbaijan."
