Prosecutor General's Office of Azerbaijan invites blogger Orkhan Aghayev for investigation

The Prosecutor General's Office of Azerbaijan has invited blogger Orkhan Aghayev, who lives abroad, for investigation, Report informs via Ictimai TV.

The accused person, Orkhan Aghayev, born in 1986, is informed that he must come to the administrative building of the Investigation Department of the Prosecutor General's Office on April 23, 2025, at 12:00 (GMT+4), with an identity document.

On September 7, 2020, a decision was made to charge Orkhan Aghayev under Articles 12.1, 34.2, 220.2 and 12.1, 34.2, 281.2 of the Criminal Code.

According to this decision, reasonable suspicions had been established that from April 19, 2019, to August 7, 2019, in collusion with others, including persons convicted by court verdicts that have entered into legal force, he deliberately made open calls in videos posted on YouTube and Facebook social media accounts for the forcible seizure of power in the Republic of Azerbaijan, forcible retention of power, forcible change of the constitutional structure of the Republic of Azerbaijan, as well as for mass riots accompanied by active disobedience to the lawful demands of government representatives and violence, and distributed materials with such content.

Since Orkhan Aghayev has fled from investigation and is hiding outside the borders of Azerbaijan, it was not possible to present charges to him, so on September 7, 2020, a decision was made to declare him wanted, and by the decision of the Nasimi District Court of Baku city dated September 7, 2020, a preventive measure of arrest was chosen.

According to the requirements of Articles 54-2.1.7 and 467-13.3 of the Criminal Procedure Code, the accused Orkhan Aghayev is warned that if he does not respond to the summons, in-absentia proceedings may be initiated against him in accordance with the procedure established by the Criminal Procedure Code, which may result in an in-absentia verdict or other final court decision.
