Azerbaijan is set to extradite Indian crime figure Mayank Singh, who was arrested in Baku last year, Report informs via the Indian media.
A team of three officers from India’s Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) has arrived in Azerbaijan to oversee the extradition process. Singh is expected to be handed over to Indian authorities on August 22 or 23.
In March of this year, Azerbaijani authorities approved the extradition of Singh, also known as Sunil Meena, who is listed as one of the most wanted criminals in India’s Jharkhand state.
India’s ATS reportedly provided credible evidence of Singh’s criminal activities via Interpol, which played a key role in Azerbaijan’s decision to approve the extradition.
Before fleeing India, Singh was involved in high-profile crimes in the states of Rajasthan, Punjab, and Haryana. Despite his escape, he continued to threaten Indian businessmen through internet calls, demanding money, and publicly shared photos of himself with automatic weapons on social media, promoting his criminal image.
