Sarah Michael: Digitalization has become key focus for World Bank

Digitalization has become one of the key areas of activity for the World Bank today, Head of the World Bank Office in Azerbaijan Sarah Michael said during a panel discussion at the international conference GSMA M360 EURASIA 2023, which began its work in Baku on May 16, Report informs.

She said that one of the areas in which the WB is now investing is the relationship between access to the Internet and the growth of the country’s GDP.

“Increasing Internet coverage in the region by 1% leads to a 1.5% increase in GDP growth,” she said, adding that this, in turn, leads to the opening and growth of new jobs.

Michael noted that the World Bank considers the improvement of digital communication opportunities in Azerbaijan a key factor in inclusive growth.
