Internet access in Azerbaijan exceeds the global average, the Regional Director of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), Natalia Mochu, said at an event on the Online Azerbaijan project, according to Report.
"There is still a gender gap in internet usage worldwide: today, 70% of men have access to the internet, while the figure for women is 65%. In Azerbaijan, the situation is much better — 92.7% of men and 85.4% of women use the internet. However, there is still a gap between urban and rural areas," she said.
She added that 83% of the urban population worldwide used the internet in 2024, while in rural areas, this figure remains below 50%.
"In Azerbaijan, 94.6% of urban residents have internet access, while in rural areas, the figure reaches 82.1%, which is significantly higher than the global level," Mochu said.
