A team of experts from the World Health Organization (WHO) will leave for China in January 2021 to search for the coronavirus source, Report informs, citing Interfax.
Fabian Leendertz, a member of the mission, noted that specialists have already begun discussions with Chinese scientists. It is likely that WHO experts will go to Wuhan:
"It's not about finding the culprit country. It's about trying to figure out what's going on, and then let's see if we can try to reduce the risk in the future based on this information."
Experts want to determine whether the virus circulated before it was first recorded. They will also study Wuhan's market, where the virus can be transmitted from animals to humans.
COVID-19 was first registered in Wuhan late last year. Since the beginning of the pandemic, 72 million coronavirus patients have been reported worldwide, 51 million have recovered, and more than 1.6 million died.
