WHO chief reveals number of monkeypox cases globally

More than 18 thousand cases of infection with monkeypox have been identified globally, Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO) Tedros Ghebreyesus told a briefing, according to Report.
"To date, more than 18,000 cases have been identified in 78 countries," he said.
According to him, more than 70% of cases of infection have been registered in Europe and 25% in the Americas.
He noted that there were five deaths in total.
The WHO director-general stressed that the monkeypox outbreak could be stopped if the risk of infection is taken seriously, the population is informed, and measures are taken to protect the most vulnerable groups.
