Minister: There is dynamic growth of cancer cases all over world

As a result of population aging, environmental factors and different lifestyles, there is a dynamic growth of cancer cases at the global level, Minister of Health of Azerbaijan Teymur Musayev said at the First Congress of Oncologists of the Union of Turkic-Speaking States, Report informs.

He noted that in 20 million new cases of cancer were identified in the world in 2022: "About every fifth person gets cancer during their lifetime. Every year, cancer is diagnosed in about 400,000 children. If in the 1960s, 10% of children recovered from cancer, today this figure exceeds 90%."

The minister emphasized that statistical indicators in the field of oncological diseases in Azerbaijan also indicate positive dynamics in this area: "Today, the attitude towards oncological diseases has changed in Azerbaijan, and an oncological diagnosis is now perceived as a call for treatment. The main goal of treatment is not only to save a person's life, but also to ensure the quality of life. All this is an indicator of the development of the oncological service of Azerbaijan and its 85-year-old flagship - the National Oncology Center - in the right direction."
