Bloomberg: Almost 11B doses administered across 184 countries

More than 10.9 billion doses have been administered across 184 countries, according to data collected by Bloomberg, Report informs.

“In total, 140 doses have been given for every 100 people around the world. In countries that reached the highest levels of vaccination, death rates plummeted. Globally, the latest vaccination rate is 21,309,064 doses per day, which includes 3,356,739 people getting their first shot. At this pace, it will take another 9 months until 75% of the population has received at least one dose.”

“Currently, 85 places have given at least one dose to 75% of the population. At the current pace of vaccinations, the goal of halting the pandemic remains elusive. Some countries are now reassessing their pandemic-era policies - weighing the current risk of severe illness against fatigue with public health measures. Infectious-disease experts have said that vaccinating 70% to 85% of the population could enable a return to normalcy, with booster shots needed to keep the virus in check,” Bloomberg added.

“In the first two years after a pandemic was declared, a dozen new vaccines were developed and more than 10 billion doses were administered. The rollout was unprecedented in its speed and scope, but distribution has been lopsided. Countries with the highest incomes have been vaccinated 10 times faster than those with the lowest. Delivering billions of additional doses to some of the world’s least-equipped nations remains one of the biggest challenges for global health.”

China, which has the most vaccinations - at almost 3.2 billion, has 87.3% of its population fully vaccinated, according to Bloomberg estimates. France has 80.6% of the population fully vaccinated, Japan - 79.8%, Germany - 75.7%, the UK - 73.3%, the US - 64.6%. At the same time, the Democratic Republic of the Congo - 0.5%, Chad and Haiti - 0.9%, Yemen - 1.2%, Cameroon - 3.1%. In Russia - 49.4% of the population is fully vaccinated.
