Construction work that began in March continues mainly in the pit and team buildings, Subhan Manafzada, manager of the construction department of Baku City Circuit Operation Company, told journalists during a media tour as part of the preparations for the Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix, Report informs.
Manafzada emphasized that there are a number of innovations:
"We have completed 80 percent of the construction in the area where we are standing. We plan to start the general track construction works in August. This has been reduced from twelve weeks to six weeks compared to previous years. We have tried to minimize the time as much as possible to avoid obstructing traffic. In total, between 1500-1700 people have been involved in different areas. Overall, 60 percent of the concrete barriers have been replaced with a new system. This will allow us to complete the track construction faster than last year."
Subhan Manafzada stated that compared to last year, the spectator stands for 18,000 people have been increased to 20,000:
"This year, two new buildings will be built inside the paddock. One is the administration building. The other is Formula 1's own product. Compared to last year, the capacity of the stands for 18,000 people has been increased to 20,000 this year. At the same time, two new stands have been added."
The Azerbaijan Grand Prix will take place between September 19-21.
