Vladimir Georgiev: Azerbaijan is a destination for migrants from neighboring countries

Azerbaijan has become one of the first destinations for migrants from neighboring countries, head of the representative office of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Azerbaijan Vladimir Georgiev said.

According to him, the COVID 19 pandemic has imposed certain restrictions on movement, which has also affected migration. But after their removal, more and more people tend to visit Azerbaijan and stay here for various reasons: leisure, business, etc.

"In this regard, the liberation of Karabakh opens up new opportunities for migrants to do business," he added.

Georgiev said that now the improvement of migration issues in the country is based on three principles: sustainability, mobility, management.

"Sustainability involves ensuring the stability of the situation for migrants in vulnerable conditions. And as part of the management strategy, cooperation with other structures to implement inclusive management of migration processes is implied," he concluded.
