Vladanka Andreeva calls for stronger NGO partnerships after COP29 breakthrough

The NGO coalition at COP29 provided a vivid example of how organizations from countries most vulnerable to the effects of climate change came together to ensure that the voice of civil society was considered in the climate negotiation process and in shaping the final outcomes, UN Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan, Vladanka Andreeva, said at the opening ceremony of the founding conference of the Global South NGO Platform, according to Report.

"At COP29 in Baku last year, we witnessed how civil society united to demonstrate the strength of collective action," said Andreeva. "The NGO coalition at COP29 was a fantastic example of how NGOs from countries most affected by climate change joined forces to ensure that civil society perspectives influenced the climate negotiations and their final outcomes. During discussions on climate finance, adaptation strategies, and the pursuit of equitable solutions, NGOs reaffirmed the principle that meaningful progress in this area is only possible with the active participation of civil society and by giving it a voice in decision-making," she emphasized.

Highlighting the important role of NGOs in addressing global challenges, Vladanka Andreeva expressed her readiness to strengthen cooperation with them.

"As the UN Office in Azerbaijan, my team and I look forward to continuing our collaboration with civil society, as well as with all other stakeholders, to help Azerbaijan achieve its national development priorities and the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. I sincerely hope that over the next two days of the conference, you will speak the language of solidarity, and that by the end of the second day, significant, thoughtful, and breakthrough decisions will be made, paving the way for effective cooperation," she added.
