Vagif Sadiqov: Independence Day - important date for Azerbaijani people

Independence Day is an important event for the entire multi-million Azerbaijani people, a day of their pride, which is celebrated not only in the country, but also in almost 90 diplomatic missions of Azerbaijan around the world, Azerbaijan's Ambassador to Belgium and Luxembourg, as well as the head of the country's mission to the European Union, Vagif Sadiqov, told Report.

"Of course, in the embassy in Belgium, in Brussels, which is not only the capital of the kingdom, but also the political center of all of Europe, where the European Commission, NATO headquarters and other important interstate structures are located, the celebration of Azerbaijan's Independence Day is a particularly important event. Our embassy is working in three directions at once: developing cooperation with Belgium, Luxembourg and the European Union as a whole. Another significant diplomatic mission of Azerbaijan is located here in Brussels - to NATO," the ambassador noted.

According to the diplomat, the tricolor flag flying over the embassy was first raised in 1918.

"The Azerbaijani people, our martyrs gave their lives so that the flag would always flutter high over the entire territory of our homeland," he said.

Vagif Sadiqov noted that the significance of this date was stated by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev at the recent trilateral summit in Lachin: "I think this is an important message for us, Azerbaijani diplomats, which we must use in our daily work and in fulfilling the tasks assigned to us."

The ambassador also expressed great satisfaction with the opening of the independent Azerbaijani news agency's bureau in Brussels.

"It is a very good fact that such a significant media structure as Report News Agency has opened its bureau in the political center of Europe - Brussels," he said.
