The US welcomes the establishment of an EU mission on the border between Azerbaijan and Armenia and hopes that this will facilitate negotiations between the parties, Vedant Patel, principal deputy spokesperson for the US State Department, said at a briefing, Report informs referring to the US Department of State.
“We are encouraged by the meeting of the president and prime minister of Armenia and Azerbaijan yesterday, and we welcome the efforts of President Macron and European Council President Michel to build momentum behind a comprehensive peace process. And we are particularly pleased with progress on an EU observer mission to the region, and this mission has the potential to build confidence between both sides and continues to bolster negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan,” Patel noted.
According to the statement of the European Council, the EU civilian mission will start operating on the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan in October and will last for two months.
