Azerbaijan’s cessation of criminal prosecution against young Armenian football players detained at the Lachin checkpoint is not surprizing, since the country’s authorities have always been distinguished by an outstanding sense of humanism, Peter Tase, US political scientist and expert in the field of international relations, told Report.
“The decision to drop criminal charges against Armenian athletes is no surprise when we look back in the history of Azerbaijan. Baku has always shown an outstanding sense of humanism, generosity and the government of Azerbaijan under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, always has strived to preserve international peace, strengthening regional cooperation and increasing economic partnership with other European countries.
International organizations must commend and congratulate Azerbaijan for taking such a noble action towards criminals that have made life miserable for many citizens of Azerbaijan,” he noted.
On August 28, Armenian football players were arrested at the Lachin border checkpoint in connection with committing offensive actions against the State Flag of Azerbaijan. However, later Azerbaijan stopped the criminal prosecution in an act of humanism
The athletes were put under administrative arrest for a period of 10 days. After the execution of the court decision, the deportation of these persons from Azerbaijan will be ensured.
