UN General Assembly adopts Russian-backed resolution on fight against neo-Nazism

The UN General Assembly voted to adopt the resolution, headlined 'Combating glorification of Nazism, neo-Nazism and other practices that contribute to fuelling contemporary forms of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance,' initiated by Russia, Report informs via TASS.

The document was supported by 119 countries, 53 were against, ten abstained. Among those who voted against it were Germany, Italy, Canada, the United States, Ukraine and Japan. The countries that supported it include Azerbaijan, Algeria, Armenia, Belarus, Bolivia, Brazil, China, Cuba and Serbia.

Russian Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN Maria Zabolotskaya said the resolution was aimed at enhancing international cooperation in the fight against Nazism, racism and xenophobia.

"The results of the vote clearly demonstrated the international community’s continued support and commitment to eradicating the above-mentioned practices," the Russian diplomat said.

Russia and its co-authors from various parts of the world have been submitting this resolution every year for almost 20 years, since 2005, and it has always received broad support from the international community. This year’s edition of the document has 74 provisions.
