Turkish professor: Russia doesn’t want to leave Armenia in hands of French lobby

Russia certainly has a role in the protest rally of the Armenians to open the road to Lachin under the pretext of "humanitarian crisis", Turkish historian, professor Ibrahim Tellioglu told Report.

According to him, Russia does not want to leave Armenia in the hands of the French lobby: “Russia is trying to maintain its influence in the region and keep its soldiers in the region as long as possible. However, due to the war with Ukraine, Russia cannot fully focus here. Relations with Iran are not as good as before. Against this backlash, it does not want to face the Organization of Turkic States because of the Karabakh issue. Karabakh has become the red line of the Turkic world. Knowing this, Russia is currently only interested in maintaining its influence in the region and keeping the situation stable.”

Tellioglu noted that Russia can contribute to the solution of the current problem due to its interests in the region: “Putin must fulfill his obligations for the implementation of the agreement he mediated. Armenia also must comply with the agreement it signed. In fact, I think that Pashinyan wants to comply with the agreement he signed, but he is trying to claim certain concessions in order to get rid of the pressures of the Armenian lobby in Europe. But these are in vain. I believe that Russia will be on the side of Azerbaijan and will contribute to the solution of this issue, as its interests in the region require it.”
