Spain backs Azerbaijan-Armenia normalization efforts

Spain supports the normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia as a crucial step toward the development of the South Caucasus, Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares said, Report informs.

In a statement shared on his X account following phone conversations with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan, Albares reaffirmed Spain’s commitment to the peace process.

“Today I held phone calls with my counterparts from Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, and Armenia, Ararat Mirzoyan, to express support for the peace process. I congratulated them on the agreements reached and emphasized that Spain fully supports the normalization of relations between the two countries in pursuit of lasting peace,” he wrote.

Albares also noted that Spain is committed to supporting the implementation of the agreements, calling it important and encouraging news for the entire region.

On August 8 in Washington, the foreign ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia initialed the text of the Agreement on the Establishment of Peace and Interstate Relations.
