Sameera Ahmed: Manifestations of Islamophobia negatively affect mental health of Muslim students

Manifestations of Islamophobia negatively affect the mental health of Muslim students, Sameera Ahmed, the Executive Director and Founder of The Family and Youth Institute, according to Report.

"Muslim students feel different, are treated differently, and this manifests itself in the form of microaggressions on a daily basis. Whether it be inaccurate information about academic performance, assumptions and stereotypes made about their abilities, or even doubts about the objectivity of their judgment on certain topics. This results in college students being cautious in academic spaces, more self-monitoring of their behavior, and less than fully authentic participation in academic discourse," she said at a plenary session within the international conference themed "Embracing Diversity: Tackling Islamophobia in 2024", hosted by Baku.
