Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis (Parliament) Sahiba Gafarova met with a delegation led by Zaur Askenderov, Chairman of the People's Assembly of Russia’s Dagestan Republic, who is visiting Azerbaijan, Report informs, citing the Milli Majlis.
The Azerbaijani speaker noted that around 300 documents covering various fields have been signed between Azerbaijan and Russia so far. It was mentioned that the largest Russian community in the South Caucasus is in Azerbaijan, and the Russian language is widely taught in several educational institutions in the country.
During the meeting, Gafarova provided insight into the construction work carried out in Azerbaijan’s liberated territories, Smart City and Smart Village projects implemented there, pressures against Azerbaijan ahead of COP29 in Baku, the progress of the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia, and the obstacles created to this process.
Zaur Askenderov spoke about the historical ties between the peoples of Dagestan and Azerbaijan and their shared common values. He noted that there is a large Azerbaijani diaspora in Dagestan, and Azerbaijanis live there as one family.
During the conversation, views were also exchanged on the further development of inter-parliamentary relations and other matters of mutual interest.
