Heydar Aliyev used every opportunity to resolve the Karabakh issue through diplomatic means. Every meeting with foreign delegations, every trip to an international forum necessarily included a discussion of the Karabakh issue, Doctor of Historical Sciences of the Russian Federation, Professor Stanislav Chernyavsky said at an event in the Azerbaijani Embassy in Russia dedicated to the 33rd anniversary of the Khojaly tragedy, Report informs.

Chernavsky noted that the Khojaly tragedy is one of the most brutal crimes against the civilian population: "Every year, when this event is commemorated, it is associated with the deepest compassion for the innocent victims. However, today this feeling is supplemented by satisfaction that justice has finally prevailed," he added.

Chernavsky stressed that the Azerbaijani people have been waiting for justice for many years, wondering when the occupied lands will be liberated, adding that thanks to the efforts of the leadership of Azerbaijan, Karabakh has returned under the control of its country.

Also, according to the professor, Karabakh will now be a flourishing region, and not the “impoverished region” it was during the Armenian occupation.
