Russian president's aide: Construction of Baikal-Amur Mainline began owing to Heydar Aliyev's perseverance

Heydar Aliyev was one of the members of the Politburo who supported the construction of the Baikal-Amur Mainline, Russian Presidential Aide Igor Levitin said at the opening of an exhibition dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the national leader of the Azerbaijani people Heydar Aliyev and his contribution to the construction of the Baikal-Amur Mainline, Report's Russian Bureau informs.

"Thanks to the decision to build this highway, today in Russia we can transport goods to the East," he said.

Levitin stressed that the construction of the Baikal-Amur Mainline began owing to the perseverance and firmness of Heydar Aliyev,

"Next year we will celebrate the 50th anniversary of this construction. Today we see how wise the people who made this decision were. Therefore, I want to thank the Ministry of Transport of Russia, the Ministry of Transport of Azerbaijan, the heads of railway administrations and, of course, BAM veterans. I am very glad that BAM veterans who live in Azerbaijan and Russia are present here today. They did everything to ensure that this important highway for Russia was built," he said.
