Rep: France's colonial policy on Guadelupe is based on complex mechanism

Guadeloupe is seen as a treasure located in southern Africa, Elie Shitalou, an agronomist and engineer, president of the Sanatan Dharma Samaj organization, said at the fifth panel session on “Moral aspects in the era of colonialism and decolonization” held on June 25 in Baku as part of the international thematic conference “Towards the decolonization of Guadeloupe: Challenges and Perspectives,” Report informs.

He emphasized that Guadeloupe has a deep colonial policy in its history:

"Guadeloupe is a unique country. It is mostly seen as a treasure in southern Africa. Because it shines like a diamond. The smaller the country is in terms of territory, the greater its value. Guadeloupe's history has been marked by a deep colonial policy, with people being used as slaves."

The speaker said that France's colonial policy in Guadeloupe was based on a very complex mechanism:

"Because they were not only destroying infrastructure, but also trying to change people's minds, alienating the population from their language and religion. They saw non-Christians as barbarians."
