Representatives of non-governmental organizations from over 110 countries will take part in the founding conference on the creation of the NGO Platform of the Global South, Chairman of the Board of the National NGO Forum of Azerbaijan Ramil Isgandarli said at a joint briefing of the National NGO Forum of Azerbaijan and the Agency for State Support to NGOs, dedicated to the founding conference of the NGO Platform of the Global South, Report informs.

"It is a great honor and pride for us that the initiator of the creation of such a platform is the civil society of Azerbaijan. We announced the launch of the process to create such a platform in November 2024 within the COP29. This initiative received international support, it was supported by NGOs from about 140 countries, more than 1,000 foreign non-governmental organizations published a joint statement," he said.

He noted that the COP29 NGO coalition, 84% of whose members represent civil society in developing countries, also called for the implementation of this initiative, and at the end of last year, the coalition raised the issue of establishing the Global South NGO Platform, asking the National NGO Forum of Azerbaijan to organize this process.

"We are grateful to the Agency for State Support to NGOs of Azerbaijan, they responded positively to all our requests for assistance. Our invitation to hold a founding conference on the creation of the Platform was accepted by the heads of leading NGOs from more than 110 countries, who will be in Baku. This is a real mobilization of NGOs for both the Global South and Azerbaijan. We will demonstrate our solidarity, join efforts,” Isgandarli added.

The founding conference will be held in Baku on April 28-29.
