President: Azerbaijan already investing in wind, solar energy

Azerbaijan has already begun to invest in renewable energy projects - in wind and solar energy, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said following the signing of an MoU on a strategic partnership in energy between Azerbaijan and the European Commission, Report informs.

“The great potential of renewable energy production in Azerbaijan is also appreciated already by the European Union. We have already started projects of investment in wind and solar energy. We’ve already made the first assessment of our potential, and I can say that in the liberated areas of Karabakh and Eastern Zangazur, the potential of solar and wind power plants is 9,200 megawatts, and the potential of wind in the Caspian Sea is 157 gigawatts. So, we have a really enormous resource base,” President Aliyev said.

According to President Ilham Aliyev, the growth of renewable energy production will result in additional volumes of Azerbaijani gas for export.
