Political expert: Baku does not need dubious mediation services of Paris

France, which openly defends Armenia's interests, cannot mediate the normalization of relations between Baku and Yerevan under any circumstances, political expert Ilgar Valizada told Report.

“Macron’s speech is simply amazing in its ignorance. This is a person who is criticized by many even in France. He is incompetent in so many issues, but such blatant incompetence in the issue of our region is simply amazing, since France claims to be a mediator. And if Macron bothers to look at the definition of this words, he can easily notice that the mediator should take a neutral and equidistant position from the parties to the conflict and exercise extreme caution and correctness while expressing his attitude to the situation," Valizada noted.

According to him, the statements of French President Emmanuel Macron about supporting Armenia, with which Paris allegedly has a "special bond" and to which it promises never to leave Yerevan, absolutely do not fit with the mission of a mediator.

"Fortunately, the OSCE Minsk Group, in which France was represented, has actually ceased to exist. And now we do not need the dubious services of Paris," the political scientist stressed.

He believes that the obvious aggressive attacks against Azerbaijan indicate that France is clearly trying to infiltrate the region on the side of Armenia and dictate its terms: "This is an absolutely unacceptable situation, and Azerbaijan will certainly not leave such a fact of unilateral pressure without attention. If it goes on like this, Azerbaijan will generally avoid any format where France is present. With such an attitude and with such approaches, it makes no sense to negotiate with the participation of France."

Important steps have recently been taken to normalize relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia within the framework of the Brussels format. On October 6, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev met with President of the Council of the European Union Charles Michel and Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan in Prague with the participation of French President Emmanuel Macron.
