The Azerbaijani Foreign Service and Ministry of Foreign Affairs have accomplished many strategic objectives in 2019. Azerbaijan has harnessed an independent foreign policy course based on its national interests at a time when political uncertainty and global economic tensions are at the apex of Realpolitik and a source of chaos in the Caucasus and Europe.

Under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, Baku has achieved a greater financial stability and economic growth of high international proportions as a result of internal stability and a growing performance of public works projects and infrastructure enterprises at the national and international levels. Azerbaijan’s transparency in public administration, engrained in a stable macroeconomic agenda and large investments in technological projects, make the country as one of the most attractive in the world.

In 2019 we commemorate the 100th anniversary of the diplomatic service of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has made every effort to safeguard and protect the cultural heritage and entire sovereign territory and integrity of Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijani diplomats have a great reputation in strengthening independence, promoting the Azerbaijani realities to the world, turning the country into an active member in the global environment.

President Ilham Aliyev has led his country into shaping socio-economic stability and economic development, created a positive foundation for the emergence of an attractive image of Azerbaijan in the international platforms. The National Foreign Policy has contributed towards strengthening the international position of Azerbaijan as a consistent and trustworthy partner: pursuing the principles of multilateralism, open minded, embracing transparency, fostering a mutually beneficial cooperation with strategic partners.

It is of special significance to distinguish a few senior career diplomats in Azerbaijani Foreign Service, who continue to defend their country in the face of adversity and massive disinformation campaigns led by Armenia; among them: Ambassador Eldar Humbat oglu Hasanov, Ph. D. in Serbia, Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina; Ambassador Anar Abel oglu Maharramov in Spain; Ambassador Mammad Ahmadzada in Italy, and many other distinguished diplomats worldwide.

The main focus of Azerbaijani Government continues to be the end of Armenia's military aggression against Azerbaijan and to restore full sovereignty and territorial integrity within the internationally recognized borders of the country.

Furthermore, on June 30th - July 10th, was held the 43rd Session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, chaired by the Government of Azerbaijan in Baku; on this occasion the nomination of “Historical City Center of Shaki together with the Khan Palace” were declared as the new historical sites of Azerbaijan, recognized and included in the UNESCO World Heritage List, this was a great success. Moreover, Baku has been included in the “Creative Cities” network by UNESCO.

On other fields, last year, Azerbaijan was elected as a member of: the EUTELSAT Advisory Committee, World Tourism Organization Appeals Committee on Associate Membership, UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the protection and promotion of cultural diversity, member of UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for Physical Education and Sports, and as a member of UNESCO Intergovernmental Council on Communication Development Program for 2019-2023.

In the 74th session of the UN General Assembly, the election of Azerbaijan as a member of the Group of 77, an entity that unites 135 member countries, whose goal is to contribute to international development and economic cooperation, is a spectacular achievement in the framework of Azerbaijan’s Foreign Policy.

As a result of ongoing consistent diplomatic efforts, we ascertain an overwhelming political – diplomatic support provided by the international community towards Azerbaijan's rightful position on resolving the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh armed conflict founded on the principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity and inviolability of international borders.
