A panel session themed "Role of Women in Human Development for Climate Resilience" was held in Lachin, Azerbaijan, as part of the Women's Forum of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO).

As per Report, the session was moderated by UN Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan, Vladanka Andreeva.

The discussion was attended by Deputy Minister of Family and Social Services of Türkiye Leman Yenigun, member of the National Commission on Women's Affairs and Family and Demographic Policy of the Parliament of Kazakhstan Zhuldyz Suleimenova, Chairman of the Education Development Fund of the Ministry of Science and Education of Azerbaijan Elnur Nasibov, Head of the ECO Educational Institute Mehmet Akif Kirecci, Partnership and Resource Mobilization Specialist of the UN Women Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia Mihaela Ionescu and Principal Project Specialist of the Asian Development Bank Representative Office in Azerbaijan Faraj Huseynbeyov.

Speaking at the panel, Elnur Nasibov emphasized that there are 1.6 million students in Azerbaijan, 62% of whom are girls.

"Girls' participation in vocational education is 36%. The Ministry of Science and Education is striving to increase this figure to 40%," Nasibov said.

He noted that the main problem in attracting women to education is the financial issue: "Families often direct their financial resources to their sons. That is why the Educational Loan Fund was established in Azerbaijan. More than 26,000 girls in Azerbaijan have already used educational loans."
