Ombudsman: Armenia still does not want to provide accurate information about mine maps

As a result of military aggression of Armenia against Azerbaijan, there are numerous mines and unexploded ammunition in the territories of Karabakh and East Zangazur, and the other side still does not want to provide accurate information about their maps and schemes, Sabina Aliyeva, Commissioner for Human Rights of the Republic of Azerbaijan (Ombudsman), said at the round table on the protection of persons with disabilities and landmine victims in Azerbaijan held in Baku on December 4, Report informs.

Thus, according to statistics, 65 people, mostly civilians, have been killed as a result of a mine explosion, and 272 people have been wounded since November 10, 2020. In total, the number of landmine victims since 1991 has reached 3,416, including 357 children and 38 women.

The ombudsman said that global mine terrorism continues to seriously impede the large-scale construction and reconstruction work in the liberated areas, as well as a just and sustainable peace, and to slow down the process of the safe return of the former IDPs to their native lands: "Finally, I would like to express my gratitude to the representative office of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Azerbaijan for the effective cooperation with the Ombudsman institution and for its active participation in the organization of today's round table, and I wish success in the work of the event!"
